Rushden Wanderers Cricket Club – AGM Minutes

i: Details of meeting

Held on Thursday 29th March 2007, at 20:00, at Northants County Cricket Club.

ii: Members Present

James Cooper, Richard Lord, Ray Norwood, Craig Throssell.

1: Apologies

N/A

2: Minutes from previous meeting

3: Reports

3.1 Fixture Secretary’s Report: Fixture secretary James Cooper announced a 2007 card of 20 fixtures, 6 of which are confirmed to be played at home. The 2007 season begins on Sunday April 29th with new fixture Pavenham, and concludes on Saturday September 15th at Ufford Park, with a free weekend on August 18th/19th.

4: Election of officials

Tim Cooper remains as team captain and James Cooper as fixture secretary. Craig Throssell was elected as Honorary Treasurer.

5: Club funds & financial

The current funds are split between Craig Throssell and Tim Cooper and total approximately £550. They are currently in both members’ personal accounts. Once the pre-season expenditures such as net sessions are complete, these funds will be combined and managed by the treasurer. This will involve setting up a dedicated club bank account for easy transfer to new officials in the future. James Cooper mentioned a financial arrangement with Rushden Town for use of their ground for home games, but no figure has yet been discussed.

6: Personal liability insurance

James Cooper suggested that the club should invest in an insurance scheme to cover its members in the event of any personal liability, especially with the growing number of young players in the team. Methods for covering the cost was discussed, the options being the club purchasing such cover with current funds, or increasing match day “subs” by a small amount to cover the extra cost incurred. No funding decision was made as no quotes have yet been obtained. A decision will be made once a quote has been received and reviewed.

7: Memorabilia for Wanderers 60th anniversary

After samples were received late last season for embroidered baseball caps, all attendees agreed that a selection of souvenir items should be made available for this, the 60th anniversary year of the club. Ray Norwood has contact with a company that may be able to supply embroidered shirts/caps, and Craig Throssell ordered samples from such a company last year. Upon deciding what items will be available for order, a memo email or letter will be sent to club members detailing costs and ordering information. Suggested items are baseball caps, traditional cricket caps, white cricket shirts, coloured cricket shirts (e.g. one day international style for wearing after matches etc).

8: 2007 End of season/60th anniversary celebration

All those who attended agreed that the end of season celebration was greatly missed last year, and extra efforts would be made by a larger group of people to ensure that such an event goes ahead for 2007. It was agreed that the event should take place in September, shortly after the end of the season, and that planning should begin early to reduce the workload on any individual(s). Craig Throssell offered to begin looking for venues etc.

9: Cricket tour

Although there was mention last year of organising a tour for 2007, all agreed that a minimum of 18 months were required for organising, therefore the tour will be postponed until 2008. Ray Norwood offered to make some enquiries in the Hampshire area. The tour is proposed to take place over the August bank holiday weekend.

10: 2007 season cricket teas

James Cooper suggested that the main contributors to cricket tea preparation for Wanderers home games should be consulted regarding their thoughts, and if necessary, arrangements should be made for players to share responsibility for the home teas. This will be discussed in preparation for the first home game on Sunday 13th May.

11: Any other business

11.1 New Club Kit Bag Richard Lord mentioned that a new club kit bag is available to the club as an unwanted charity raffle prize. It was agreed that the old bag has seen better days and that a donation would be made to the charity in return.

11.2 Contact Evening Telegraph It was suggested that efforts should be made to boost the profile of the club by making the local press aware of our anniversary year. Reasons for this include boosting the club’s profile to aid with obtaining future fixtures, gaining new players, promoting the website, and informing ex-players and supporters of the end of season celebration/awards evening.

12: Future Meetings

None planned.

Minutes taken by C Throssell.
